August 7 Celebration
The program for this day consisted of two historic tours - the hamlet of Fish House in the morning and Sacandaga Park in the afternoon. The tours were sponsored by Adirondack Architectural Heritage They were lead by Paula Dennis, John Ferguson and other historians including Don Williams. The Park tour ended at 3.30 pm at the Depot. The dedication of the National Register of Historic Places plague took place at 4 pm with speeches by Paula Dennis and our local historian Gail Cramer. Stories about life in Sacandaga Park were told by Wayne Erb, Ray Hatch and Larry Cramer. The music was by Stan DeVoe and Peter Betz. Ray Smith of OPRHP presented the Certificate of Listing signed by the NY State Commissioner. Cake and ice cream (compliments of Stewarts Corp) afterwards. Kingsboro Lumber paid for the National Register plague. There was a buffet dinner for special invitees from 5 to 7 pm. The public program continued at 7 pm with a concert performance by a 17-piece swing band playing music from the 20's to the 50's. Dancing afterwards to a rock&roll band. The concert and dance were co-sponsored by the Sacandaga Park Civic Association. The party was a great ending to a 2-year effort to restore the Depot building. The Bands were great - ask all the children dancing in front. We thank all who helped in making the day into a great celebration of historic preservation and community spirit. Mother Nature was moderately cooperative and we will order better weather next year!
